Gestamp is a leading EU multinational Company in the steel industry, automotive components and logistics sector. Made up of three large industrial divisions Gonvari, Automecion and Esmena. Gestamp has facilities in twelve countries with a total of 37 plants and employ in excess of 10,000 people worldwide.
Customers include Volkswagen, Renault, Nissan, Peugeot and Ford among others.
Gestamp commenced producing metal parts in the UK in 2002 at a site near to the Nissan car plant. There main business was producing metal parts such as sills, pillars brackets among others for Nissan. It was at this time that they formed a working relationship with Vantec who were brought on board to provide a cost effective and efficient solution to their logistics requirement allowing Gestamp to concentrate on there core role of manufacturing.
Originally Vantec supplied and managed a total of 21 staff supporting activities as diverse as decanting, picking, auditing and direct to line deliveries.
In 2003 Gestamp UK moved to a purpose built site at Stephenson Industrial Estate in Washington. Again Vantec were requested to carry out all logistics services on behalf off Gestamp. This would include a new parts inspection activity increasing Vantec staff to 43.
In 2004 a new logistics management system was introduced in the form of SAP, Vantec staff were fully involved in the 10 week training and implementation programme and again headcount was increased with the introduction of an RDT scanning process.
Since 2002 Vantec headcount has increased from 21 to the current level of 71 taking on additional work in areas such as production cover, SAP, parts scanning. This further emphasises the excellent working partnership between Gestamp and Vantec. |
